Deguiyu is an ARG (Alternate Reality Game) with an element of treasure hunting on Xbox Live’s Indie Games platform. A player experiences alternate reality and is exposed to the issues of e-waste, information control, and corporate cultures while collecting information across various digital media such as Xbox console, website, mobile phone, and online video.

Guiyu, China is a town described as the biggest e-waste site in the world. By adding “de”, Deguiyu implies “let’s undo what we’ve done to the earth.”

As the Web Presence Director and Narrative Creator, I created the content of the Deguiyu website and the overall narrative flow of the ARG.

Deadbook is the product of innovative storytelling which incorporates interactive social network, video, and photography. Its narrative is set on the edge of the afterlife, as souls reconnect with each other to sort through their memories and to decide which ones they want to take with them into eternity under the supervision of the webmaster character “Charon”.

Experience Deadbook at deadbook.org after signing as a “recently departed” soul.

As the Narrative Creator and Director of Media Content, I designed a profile for one of the characters named “Lucy Cha” portraying her memories through video clips, photo images, and afterlife interactions with other characters.

As the Filmmaker and Narrative Creator, I interviewed many passionate Saturna Islanders regarding their Spanish heritage, the Fog Alarm Building (FAB) and created the videos for Explore Saturna. Research on past and present stories on Saturna Island was crucial to my role.
